Made by Hands philosophy:
"We are inspired by Scandinavian craft traditions and styles, which provide an array of opportunities to develop authentic and durable design products manufactured by craftspeople in Denmark and abroad".
The new Ro lamp is designed by Kim Richardt, who is a former blacksmith and a Danish autodidactic designer. He has a deep fascination for classic Danish design and furniture, which led Richardt to open his own vintage design furniture boutique in Central Copenhagen. From the work bench in this very shop, Richardt has created several designs for Frama, and now in collaboration with Made by Hand, with the RO Lamp.
The Ro Lamp draws inspiration from the old craft maker traditions in the 1920s and 1930s where a simple lamp shade was made of ne and yarn usually tied around a wooden stand. The RO Lampshade is made of jute yarn tied around a simple base in line with the old traditions in Denmark. Inside the lamp shade the brass reflector allows only small cracks of light to travel along the jute yarn in different heights creating a very cozy light.
The lamp name RO in Danish refers to the calmness and simple human feeling of well-being.
I also love the Knit-Wit lamp designed by ISKOS-BERLIN. Knit-Wit means "a person with a flair, knack or love of knitting/crocheting craft; handy with yarn and needles; a knitting/crocheting enthusiast". And the production is 100% sustainable. No cut-offs! Discover the lamp here.
Have to also mention this Coatstand. On my wishlist.. Designed by Danish duo Studio 0405. With inspiration in Japanese joinery, the Coat Stand is simple and easy to assemble for everyday use! A discrete and low-key design but very beautiful. Read more about the coatstand here.
