Inspiration: Simone Bodmer-Turner
From her design studio based in New York, Simone Bodmer - Turner creates irregular, -one-of-a-kind modern sculptures, inspired by the human body and the organic movement found in the natural world. Every piece is made by hand and each is a unique expression. Here are some of my favorites.
Inspired by nature, she plays on a clear chromatic palette to better highlight the volumes and singularities of her creations. The result is complex, one-of-a-kind modern pieces exclusively made out of coils and slabs. Combining ancient techniques, which she learned from her study in Mexico and Japan, the expression consist with irregularities, indents, and fingerprints as evidence hand-building clay pieces.
I find that a clear palette allows a shape to better reveal its imperfections, outlines and hollows.
...I like the subtleties of a unique color that reveals itself in terms of where the light comes in, but I do not want a shape to be smooth.
Simone's inspiration comes mainly from nature; finding mushrooms, bones and quirky branches a source for expression, which explains the sculptures appearance sometimes a little strange.
She likes to experiment with styles and techniques, and has also got her imprint in the fashion industry. Collaborations with designers and their boutiques is something she's found curious and but rewarding development. Here's an image of French fashion designer Jacquemus new restaurant Oursin in Paris featuring the Aortic Vessel.
Very exited to see more of Simone's work and creations, and maybe one day; own one of her unique sculptures.
